Angela Evelyn Bassett was born in the United States. She is known for her roles in TV and film from the mid-80s onwards, she's won numerous awards like two Golden Globe Awards and sixteen NAACP Image Awards in addition to nominations for two Academy Awards and seven Primetime Emmy Awards. Bassett was raised by her aunt in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Her birthplace was and grew up in New York New York. Her mother split with her father when she was approximately five. She and her younger sister later relocated into St. Petersburg Florida with their mother. Bassett chose to become an actress after seeing the production Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, starring James Earl Jones. In the year 1980, Bassett was graduated from Yale University New Haven Connecticut with an undergraduate degree in African American studies. She also received a degree from The Yale School of Drama. She met Courtney B. Vance, an actress who was also at Yale and they got married in 1997. Qualification: B.A. graduated from the Yale School of Drama School with a master's degree on African American studies, in 1980.
